BEST THESIS AWARD 2025
The annual HKSA Best Thesis Award honors the best thesis fromamong those submitted by graduate students or their mentors and supervisors in sociology. Thesis nominations for recent graduates with degrees granted in the preceding academic year (September 2024 to August 2025) and students with degrees awarded or expected to be awarded in the current academic year (September 2025 to August 2026) will be eligible for consideration.
Submission Criteria
1. Nominee must currently bea graduate student (M.Phil or Doctoral level) enrolled in an accredited degree-granting university or recent graduate (M.Phil or Doctoral level) within the past academic year from an accredited degree-granting university. There is no geographical restriction on the nominee’s university.
2. Nominations must be made through our online application form (below) and should include details about:
a. Nominee’s name
b. Nominee’s affiliated university
c. Nominee’s CV, including information about degree obtained and discipline
d. Nominee’s email address
e. A digital copy of the thesis (including its abstract) in .DOC, .DOCX, or .PDF format only
f. Your HKSA membership ID
g. Thesis abstract of no more than 500 words
h. A personal statement from the nominee
i. One reference letter from nominee’s supervisor
3. Nominations may be made by students directly or by their mentors.
4. All nominees (and nominators, in the event thatnominations are made by nominees’ mentors or supervisors) must be current HKSA members at the time of submission and at the time of the award ceremony at the Annual Conference.
5. Nominees and submissions are expected to conform with our Code of Ethics that mandates scientific integrity according to COPE guidelines and prohibits discrimination, harassment, and plagiarism.
6. The winner and the runner-up (honorary mention) will be awarded HK$3,000 and HK$2,000, respectively.
7. Awardees are required to attend the HKSA conference in person to receive the award. For overseas awardees who are completing their degrees at a university located outside of Hong Kong, greater China, Macao, and Taiwan, up to HK$3,000 will be subsidized for airfare.
8. Nominations must be made by 11:59pm (HKT), October 15, 2025
